بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
Please don’t forget to make dua I pass tomorrow.
Dedicated Ummi Israa (nawaal) for the very sweet and supportive comment.
I rubbed my eyes and recited the dua upon awakening. I awoke happily with a smile on my face. The feeling of waking up late just because you can, because there’s no school, because it’s holidays! That’s the feeling that put the smile on my face. However my smile soon faded as I remembered nani’s mission to get me domesticated. Deciding there was no way to evade the inevitable, I eventually made my way to the kitchen.
“Today I want you to peel and cut the onions and potatoes for my curry,” Nani said. Other than the fact that my tear ducts will empty themselves, this is not too bad I thought. I thought wrong! “What if you get married or you go somewhere and you don’t have a potato peeler? You need to know how to use a knife. It’s actually easier to peel the potato with a knife than a potato peeler,” Nani declared, refusing to let me use the peeler.
For goodness sake, it’s just a peeler. How expensive can that little thing be? How much more dramatic can she get? These were the thoughts going through my mind as I got shouting for not cutting correctly and wasting half the potato resulting in me nicking myself with the knife.
“Shit!” I exclaimed running to get a tissue. “Can’t even trust you not to cut yourself! And what’s this bad words you using? You know you not too old for me put chillies in you mouth. Especially being a muslimah, you shouldn’t be using words like these,” Nani scolded.
قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : “ليس المؤمن بالطعان، ولا اللعان، ولا الفاحش، ولا البذي”.
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said “A true believer is not involved in taunting, or frequently cursing or in indecency or obscenity.”
“I don’t want you to become like your uncle. He got a filthy mouth like a sailor. I was scolding him for using bad language the other day and his little son says, “Nani I’m going to fetch the chillies, put chillies in his mouth.” I watched him, so shocked as he ran to the kitchen and came back with ‘chillies’. He brought BBQ spice and told me, “Here nani put chillies in his mouth.”
Nani always had a million and one stories to tell, especially about her grand children, I thought smiling as nani tended to my cut. “Go now, I don’t think I can handle any more of your accidents. When something happens you must have sabr and Allah will reward you for it. Although this is a small cut, Allah is so merciful that he will forgive your sins due to it but you spoilt it. You never have sabr and you using bad words then how you expect to be rewarded for it.”
